Dog is my co-pilot
Dogs and people. It’s been called the world’s oldest relationship, Why do people love their dogs so much? Can dogs make us better people? Is the dog an equal, or maybe more than equal part of your family? You may love your dog to death, but can you emotionalize them? How do you know if your dog is fulfilled? Should dogs be allowed at work? How do you know when it’s time to put your dog down? If we love them so much, then why are so many millions euthanized each year because no one will take them in?
Listeners share their dog love. Jon Katz, the author of ‘The New Work of Dogs: Tending to Love, Life and Family’ suggests we should not emotionalize our dogs. Dr. Kathy Ruby a Counselor at the Veterinarian School at WSU in the Grief and Bereavement program talks about the grief associated with losing a dog. When this program aired she was Director of the Washington State University Pet Loss Hotline. The hotline was shut down in 2019.
