Norman Mailer
I was intimidated to be interviewing Norman Mailer (January 31, 1923 – November 10, 2007) about his 13-hundred-page CIA novel ‘Harlot’s Ghost’ in 1991. But the notoriously pugnacious novelist, journalist, politician, and social critic, was genial and accommodating. He talked about this feuds with feminists; an attempt to recruit him to the CIA; his belief the left became choked by political correctness; the impact of the collapse of the end of the Cold War on the U.S.; how his public notoriety affected his art; was known for his controversial and often politically charged works, as well as for his flamboyant personality and public persona. Some of his most famous works include "The Naked and the Dead," "Advertisements for Myself," and "The Executioner's Song." He was also a two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize.
