Paul Auster

I had the opportunity to speak with novelist Paul Auster (born Feb. 3, 1947 - April 30, 2024) ) twice. On May 12, 1989 I spoke with him about his then new novel MOON PLACE, about why his main character chooses to be homeless, using the techniques of journalism to write fiction, and the despair he felt when he finished a book. Auster began by reading the opening paragraph of MOON PALACE.

The second interview from 1992 was focused on his novel LEVIATHAN and includes a reading from the opening pages.
