Kima Cargill: The Psychology of Overeating

In 2015 I spoke with Kima Cargill, University of Washington Tacoma clinical psychology professor and author of “Psychology of Overeating: Food and the Culture of Consumerism." Cargill sees overeating as related to consumerism: we try to consume less, but we’re bombarded with messages to consume more. She found a symbol for the push-pull of messages on calorie consumption at SeaTac airport where at the time of our interview, the water bottle dispensers had signs saying ‘you deserve better than water’ advertising high-calorie coffee drinks.
