Dan Baum on Guns

I’ve been thinking about this 9-year-old interview a lot in the wake of the latest mass shootings and the feelings of hopelessness about stopping them. Dan Baum (1956 - 2020) was a journalist (New York Times, New Yorker, Rolling Stone), author (Nine Lives: Death and Life in New Orleans), and a self-described gun guy with strong opinions about gun ownership and gun violence. In 2013 we talked about his book Gun Guys: A Road Trip in which he argues the loudest voices of gun owners and gun control advocates are both off base.
