Arlie Hochschild ‘Strangers in Their Own Land’

Berkeley sociologist Arlie Hochschild (born January 15, 1940) spent five yearsd with far-right, white, rural working-class people in Louisiana to understand them. She wanted to know why people in red states - who get more federal support than other places - hated the federal government and supported Donald Trump. She learned their perspective - Hochschild calls it their deep story - to gain a deeper understanding. She provides great insight into the roots of our deep political divide and speaks of crossover issues where both agree.
